EasyBib  http://www.easybib.com

Use EasyBib for building citations, and also for online note-taking and outlining.

PREMIUM ACCOUNTS now available for all MPI students.  If you have an existing free EasyBib account, you can upgrade to a premium account, because our library now has a subscription to EasyBib School Edition.  If you don't yet have any account, you can register to create a premium School Edition account (see notes at bottom about how to do this).

With your premium account, you get more features than you do with the free version of EasyBib.  One great new feature is EasyBib Notebook, which is an online note-taking and outlining tool (see notes below on this).  Also, with premium accounts, there will be no annoying advertisements in EasyBib.  For specifics about what features you get with EasyBib School Edition that don’t come with the free version, see http://easybib.com/products/bib4school.

USING EASYBIB TO BUILD CITATIONS

ONLINE TUTORIALS on using EasyBib (recorded by Ms. Kemble, MPI librarian):

-- Overview of EasyBib  (4' 12")

-- Citing Books in EasyBib  (4' 59")    Also see p. 2 of the MPI Style Sheet.

-- Citing Anthology Chapters in EasyBib  (4' 14")    Also see p. 2 of the MPI Style Sheet.

-- Citing Web Pages in EasyBib  (4’ 07”)    Also see p. 4 of the MPI Style Sheet.   NOTE: The next tutorial continues from this "Citing Web Pages" one.

-- Problems with Using Autocite  (1' 53")   This tutorial continues from the "Citing Web Pages" one above.

LIBRARY DATABASE ARTICLE CITATIONS:  DON'T use EasyBib to create citations for library database articles!  Just copy-and-paste the ready-made citations.

There are two ways you can combine your library database citations with your EasyBib citations:

1.  You can paste your library database citations into a Word doc…and then after you export your EasyBib citations (also as a Word doc), you integrate the two lists, as explained here:
-- Combining EasyBib Citations with Library Database Citations  (4' 54")

2.  You can copy-and-paste library database citations directly into an EasyBib list, as explained here:
-- Copying Library Database Citations into EasyBib  (3:39)

EASYBIB VISUAL GUIDE (provided by EasyBib):  The EasyBib Visual Guide to Citations is similar to the tutorials recorded by Ms. Kemble in that it shows not just what to include in your citations, but where you find that information.

EASYBIB NOTEBOOK:  FOR ONLINE NOTE-TAKING AND OUTLINING

EasyBib Notebook is a tool (only available for those with premium accounts) that lets you work on papers by taking notes online using virtual note cards, which you can organize and edit any way you like.  It also can easily create outlines from your virtual note cards.

There are three short EasyBib Notebook tutorials (provided by EasyBib) that provide a quick overview (see the three blue tabs at the top of the video clip screen):

-- Using Virtual Note Cards (1’ 39”)

-- Cornell note-taking (52”)

-- Dynamic outlining (29”)

For feature-specific videos, which go into a little more detail, see the EasyBib User Guide page: http://www.easybib.com/kb.  (In the column on the left, see "Notebook Tutorials.")

As well as the video tutorials, you can also look at this EasyBib Notebook Guide in PowerPoint.

If you want to use EasyBib Notebook to take notes from a library database article, you should copy the article citation into EasyBib, so you will have a source citation to attach your notes to.  Watch the tutorial above called “Copying Library Database Citations into EasyBib.”
